Presented is an antique gold filled garnet gemstone bracelet dating to the mid to late 1800s. This Victorian piece may be a mourning or memorial piece of jewelry. The bracelet is prong set with 84 garnets measuring 3.5 millimeters in diameter and 56 smaller garnets measuring 2 millimeters in diameter. The bracelet has been extended with gold filled links, which could easily be removed by your local jeweler.
The clasp is a tab insert box style in a lovely filigree openwork design, with a springring safety chain on the side. Both clasps are quite secure. The box clasp is stamped and guaranteed 14k on the tab. The springring clasp is also stamped 14k, and we have tested the safety chain itself and guarantee it to be 14 karat gold as well. The extender links are gold filled. The bracelet itself seems to be a very low carat gold, less than 9k.
This piece is in excellent condition for its age. The clasp, extender links, and safety chain are more modern replacements, but function well and look nice with the bracelet.
The bracelet was originally 6 inches long and with the extension is now 7 1/2 inches long.
